At 345 feet above sea level, Blue Mountain Beach has the distinction of being the highest point on the Florida Gulf Coast. Legend has it that Indians first thought the blue haze on the hills and dunes looked like Blue Mountains on the beach, thus, the name, “Blue Mountain Beach.” Blankets of rare, purplish-blue Lupines, which grow in only eight of Florida’s counties, cause the haze.

The mysterious Draper Lake is a rare coastal dune lake that supports an ecosystem unique to only a few places on earth. Alligator Lake and Big Red Fish Lake are ideal for fishing, kayaking and canoeing year ‘round.
Explore the famous Timpoochee Trail during your stay in Blue Mountain Beach. This 19-mile paved trail ambles along Scenic Highway 30-A providing hikers and bikers an opportunity to enjoy the scenic beauty of the coastal dune lakes, dense woodlands and architecturally stunning communities that make up the Blue Mountain area. Bike rentals are available from Big Daddy’s Bike & Kayak Rentals, a local Blue Mountain store.
